We’re proud to have received a Records at Risk grant of £3,976 from the National Archives to kickstart the cataloguing of Tim Brunsden’s remarkable video archive, capturing two decades of the Homotopia Festival in Liverpool.
Currently held across 25 hard drives and over 400 original MiniDV tapes, this unique and irreplaceable collection offers an intimate lens on a transformative era in UK LGBTQ+ history. Without urgent intervention, however, this cultural legacy risks being lost.
The archive includes rare interviews with iconic figures such as the late filmmaker Terence Davies, transgender pioneer April Ashley, and trailblazing performer Bette Bourne, among many others.
This first phase of cataloguing is led by Re-Dock CIC, in collaboration with the North West Film Archive, Liverpool Record Office, and Homotopia Festival. We’ve also Brought on Joe Goff to the project as part-time Cataloging Assistant. Together, we aim to safeguard and celebrate this vital legacy.
We are now actively seeking funding to move into the next phase—digitising the tapes, securing rights and permissions, and ensuring future public access to this incredible resource.digitation of the tapes, confirming permissions and making the work accessible to future generations.
