Three cities working together to create one EPIC text adventure game of the North. In 2015, young people from libraries in Wigan, Burnley and Hull worked collaboratively to create a text adventure game – Northern Powerhouse: Last Towns Standing .
The three cities each sent a representative to choose a genre, and then separately explore their area through a combination of balloons and map making to plot and create an alternative world. Through further workshops of narrative building, the stories were fleshed out and collected into a saga.
Three summits with representatives from each city came to intertwine the story – with the final output as a text adventure game and touring exhibition of supporting materials ie Artefakes. These artefakes supplement the stories, bringing to life the fictional alternative world the Young People create.
Text Adventure Time is part of Networked Narrative, a two year collaborative project made up of four main partners: FACT, WLCT, Lancashire County Council and Hull Libraries together with smaller partners from each region. Re-Dock are excited to lead the online digital art commission – Text Adventure Time.
